Media Statement - Caravan Incident
Community safety in focus following serious incident in Halls Creek
The Shire of Halls Creek is very saddened by the serious incident at the Halls Creek roadhouse on Saturday, in which an elderly tourist was critically injured.
Our thoughts are with the man and his family at this terrible time, and we wish him the best for his recovery.
Halls Creek deeply values the tourists who visit our region, and we want every visitor to feel safe and secure during their time here. This incident is distressing for both the community and those who choose to spend time visiting our town.
Shire President Malcolm Edwards said:
“This was a shocking event, and our community is very concerned for the injured man and his family. We want to express our support and care for them as they go through this awful time.”
Mr Edwards said the Shire remains committed to finding long-term solutions to youth justice issues in the region.
“We will continue working closely with WA Police, community leaders and stakeholders to address community safety. Our priority is to ensure Halls Creek is a safe and welcoming place for both residents and visitors alike.”
As part of this commitment, the Shire will be linking with youth justice stakeholders in Halls Creek in the coming days to discuss further actions and responses to support community safety as matter of urgency.
