The Shire of Halls Creek wishes to provide an update to the community regarding the ongoing closure of the Gym, Rec Centre, and Pool.
We are very mindful of the impact these closures have on our community. These facilities are vital for health, wellbeing, and social connection, and we appreciate your continued patience as we work to bring them back into service.
Why is it taking time? The repair process has not been straightforward. The closure is the result of four separate instances of serious vandalism, all of which must be addressed together to ensure the building meets health and safety standards.
Progress is currently dependent on the freight of essential materials to complete repairs.
Unfortunately, recent flooding and rising fuel prices have caused regional logistics delays, impacting how quickly our contractors can receive the parts they need to complete the outstanding jobs.
What is happening now? Despite these challenges, we are making significant progress behind the scenes:
- We have now received and accepted the final amended quotes for the required works.
- Staff are using this time to upskill and plan events, functions, and holiday programs for the year ahead.
- Our current priority is restoring the essential functions of the building—including fire safety systems, first aid requirements, and plumbing—so that we can begin a phased reopening. The Shire hopes to start providing some activities again from the April Holidays.
We are working with our contractors to get the gym, pool, and recreation centre open as soon as it is safe to do so. We will provide a further update on a confirmed reopening date as soon as the arrival of freight and the completion of internal works allow.
The Shire remains committed to restoring these facilities for the Halls Creek community as a matter of priority.
